Here's to consuming lots of candy corn and watching creepy movies in broad daylight so as not to get too scared.

fairbanks museum & planetarium
On a whim, Dave and I stopped in at the Fairbanks Museum & Planetarium in St. Johnsbury as we were driving to Trout River Brewing Company the other day. We missed the planetarium show by about 15 minutes — story of our lives — but still got to wander through the museum, home to 175,000 objects from an eclectic collection. I can't say I'm big on the preserved animal specimens, but the Victorian architecture and layout are fascinating, don't you think?

love it or leaf it
I admit it: I peeped some leaves yesterday.
I didn't mean to; normally, I don't condone intentional leaf peeping for those under the age of, say, 50. I've always been a New Englander, so I'm not one to freak out over foliage. It's just another sign of the season. However, it was impossible to ignore the last oranges and yellows of autumn on a drive through the Northeast Kingdom yesterday. No matter the season, I always find Vermont stunning. (Oh, that's right. Except for you, mud season.)

waterbury center state park
I live in Vermont by choice, so I have no right to complain about the weather. But really? In the two weeks between Dave's birthday (27!) and mine (24!), the temperature dropped from the 80-something degrees pictured here to 40 degrees with blustery winds and rain. Needless to say, my birthday was spent inside. For now, and likely for the next six months, I'll be ogling these photos of our day at Waterbury Center State Park. It's definitely on our list to hit up again next year.
