jay peak

Two weekends ago, Dave and I had the best mini getaway: We spent a night at Jay Peak Resort in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. We'd been there once before, just after the first frigid snowfall in October, but summer on the mountain is a completely different experience.

I'll get to the scenic views in a minute, but first? Here's a look at the new Pump House Indoor Water Park, which I have to admit was the main reason we were so excited to spend a weekend here.

I'd never been to a water park before! Thankfully, it wasn't too overrun with little kids — basically my worst fear in any situation — so we got to enjoy the water slides and lazy river. Dave even tried to surf, as the guy below is doing — and, like everyone else, he took a hilariously spectacular backwards fall within 15 seconds. (That current is strong.)

The best part, though, was the cable car up to the very peak of the mountain, a 2000-foot ascent. I'm not usually one to be squeamish about heights, but the ride up was crazy vertical! As a non-ski/snowboarder, I don't understand how anyone would be brave enough to ski down. But the views from the top are pretty glorious, don't you think?

A weekend well spent, I thought.

  1. Wow, this looks like fun. And the water park is really something. But, your photos of the landscape are wonderful, with the trails begging to be hiked.
